چکیده

The development of an advanced human–machine interface has always been an interesting research topic in the field of rehabilitation, in which biomedical signals, such as myoelectric signals, have a key role to play. Myoelectric control is an advanced technique concerned with the detection, processing, classification, and application of myoelectric signals to control human-assisting robots or rehabilitation devices. This paper reviews recent research and development in pattern recognitionand non-pattern recognition-based myoelectric control, and presents state-of-the-art achievements in terms of their type, structure, and potential application. Directions for future research are also briefly outlined. # 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The Development of a Myoelectric Training Tool for Above-Elbow Amputees

The objective of above-elbow myoelectric prostheses is to reestablish the functionality of missing limbs and increase the quality of life of amputees. By using electromyography (EMG) electrodes attached to the surface of the skin, amputees are able to control motors in myoelectric prostheses by voluntarily contracting the muscles of their residual limb. This work describes the development of an...

Evidence Note Differences in Myoelectric and Body-Powered Upper Limb Prostheses

Key Points  Research comparing upper limb prostheses is limited.  Body-powered prostheses have demonstrated advantages in durability, training time, user feedback and frequency of adjustment and maintenance.  Myoelectric prostheses have been shown to provide a cosmetic advantage, are more accepted for light intensity work, and may positively affect phantom limb pain when used actively.  Bod...

An Adaptive Multifunction Myoelectric Control System

Myoelectric systems have received widespread use as controls of prosthetic devices for individuals with amputations or congenitally deficient upper limbs, (Parker and Scott, 1988). Many systems are now available commercially to control a single device (hand, elbow, wrist). These systems extract a control signal based on an estimate of the amplitude, (Dorcas and Scott, 1966), or on the rate of c...

Evaluation of Support Vector Machines in Upper Limb Motion Classification Using Myoelectric Signal

This paper evaluates the Support Vector Machine (SVM) applied to upper limb motion classification using myoelectric signals. The main purpose of this paper is to compare SVM-based classifiers with LDA and MLP. SVM demonstrates exceptional classification accuracy and results in a robust way of limb motion classification with low computational cost. The validity of entropy, as an index to measure...

Real-time Myoelectric Control in a Virtual Environment to Relate Accuracy and Usability

INTRODUCTION Many clinically available, upper-extremity prosthetic limbs provide myoelectric control of a single device, such as a hand, elbow, or wrist. Most commonly, these systems yield control information from myoelectric signal (MES) amplitude [1] or rate of change of MES [2]. Such systems have been beneficial; however, prosthetic users would no doubt find enhanced functionality and usabil...
